smoking dope down by the river.
I remember alot ofthings about my childhood in the beach. All my neighbors the Rogers, Barnes, Jackson, Waters, Goodies, and Hendricks and all the fun us kids had. Sorry about trying to run over you Steve with my mini bike. The forts we made in the woods and all the baseball we use to play in my back yard. I loved be able to roam all around the beach and only having to worry about when the neighbors were going to tell my dad about all the mischievious stuff I had been doing. I also remember getting teased about our PINK house from the others.(how could dad paint the house pink). But the biggest thing I remember is you always knew that if you needed help with something or needed anything you could always count on your friends or neighbors to lend a helping hand. What good times we all had I wish the world was still like that
My family and I lived up Lewis Road. My parents were good friends with the Keelers. "Load up we're going to Sunny and Butch's" is what dad would say. Their youngest daughter and I were great friends. We used to watch the Wizard of Oz on Sunday nights while our parents played (sp?) Kanasta. I remember Vacation Bible School in the Baptist Church, riding our bikes down to the river from the Keelers. I remember playing in the water puddles outside their house watching all the tadpoles swim around. Times Beach has a lot of fun and fond memories of my early childhood. When the flood came, the Keelers moved in with us - I will never forget the saddness and pain I could see in their eyes. I was only 7 at the time, ust shy of 8, but remember like yesterday. It's so sad to see it all gone. My father worked for ILL-MO Bobcat for years as well, I recall sitting on the countertops when I was 5 or 6 watching the guys work on the bobcats, my dad still drives those things today. Good Memories where always had in Times Beach. I wish all the residents good health still to this day! Thanks for the wonderful memories I will forever have!
Gordon was a great guy. I was his bartender when I was 21. I remember my uncle Chet forgetting to hit his brakes and running into the bar. I remember Susie and her 5 kids and little Tommy She worked there too. Wonder where you are. Vicki my cousin just had a brain tumor removed last month. She is 50. Send her and Tommy your prayers. We use to cook ham and beans down by the river that took 2 days to cook in the largest cast iron pot I had ever seen at Neal and Jane Wrens and their flamboyant daughter Vicky. I had my wedding reception at a small hall in town. Gene Wren, Betty says hi!
I remember visiting my Aunt Helen & Bob Stewart and my cousins and playing with them on the river. The river was right behind my aunts house. I also remember visiting with my sister Pat Conway (tooter) in the summer time and playing and running barefoot on those hot roads and playing in the dirt. I was about 9 or 10 years old. What I would give to go back to then........
Does anyone have the same great memories as I do of playing on the playground by City Hall. The merry-go-round was so much fun as well as the swings and "see saw" We didn't have a care in the world, just having lots of fun playing for hours in the summer sun.
It was so much fun to play on the merry-go-round and swings (by City Hall) in the late 1950's and early 60's. We had no cares or worries in the world, just having fun playing in the sun.
I'm a former St Louis resident, West County. My friends and I had a LOT of good times swimming and partying on the Meramec there. I remember how weird it was to see the exit all blocked off and guarded, the trailers sliding off their pads like a real ghost town. Hope all who lived there are doing well.
I remember going trick-or-treating to some guys house that had exotic birds and a couple monkeys. The monkeys would spit on you. I think they worked at six flags in the puppet show. But every halloween we would get to go see the monkeys. C.Mills
I was around 7 at the time of the flood. We lived in a little trailer park. I remember riding the bus to school seeing men in white suites along the road before the flood. My dad ... came back after the flood and took all our furnature and plates and possessions. I've not lived in MO in quite some time but I vividly remember living in this tiny town.
I remember well the fun we had at the church picnics with the Gospel Singings. I think they were once a month in the spring and summer. Vacation Bible School, and the activities which involved the young teens at the Baptist Church. There always seemed to be something going on there.
Gosh... I remember being able to walk to the 7-11 down the trailer park road... and the guy knew my mom.. I was like 7 at the time. He would give me a gallon of wine for my mom. Can you believe that? Does anyone remember Steck... the cop? ; - )
Danny Lindquist (Booney) was my first real love. His house was back to back with ours. Our son is almost 27 now and i would love to let him know that he was just awarded a scholarship for being the smartest in his state!
I am Robin. Was known as Jerry Benson's little sister. I just remember having so much fun in Times Beach. We lived on Ceder. Two streets from the river. We use to have a lot of fun!!! My best friends were Joanne Loper, and Sherry Walker. Remember the Lopers? Anyone? They moved before the flood. I think their house still had dirt floors when they moved. I remember the 7-11 and the camp ground. I remember flying down the outside road that went under the bridge as you were coming into times beach and my brother Jerry would do a complete turn around. I remember running with Dennis Houtin and all the other "bad kids" (whatever!) starting little busch fires and running from the cops. We were crazy! Who would even think in now??? I know it is a bad memory but i remember the summer that the young mother drove off into the river with her kids in the car. I remember Richard Shaw. Oh those gorgeous eyes and smile! I could go on and on. I'll be back for more! Robin Benson/Leuthauser/Grant (robin.grant@stjude.org
I remember riding my bike to the 7 eleven. I also remember my best friend Denise Creamer. I lived in Times Beach from 1971 to 1982. Sonia Meridith (Smith)
he was a good man
Someone mentioned two boys from the trailer park who were hit by a train. The date was March 5, 1971, overcast and cold. I can still remember the Frisko Line train breaks squealing for what seemed like a lifetime. It took the train a mile to stop as it was traveling nearly 100 mph. It was witnessed by Mr Yancey (?) an old gentleman who lived on the corner of Blakey and Lincoln. The boy's were Ricky Crosby age 8 who lived at 523 Oak St and Scotty Richardson age 7 who lived at 500 Oak St. A tragic day for both families. Many other memories as well that were much happier, like dirt clod fights, Hobo watching and dirt bike riding. I liken that time as something reminiscent to Tom Sawyer ..Ron Crosby

Picking blackberries in the summer by the railroad tracks. The Circle R ranch horses getting loose, crossing the railroad tracks, and eating the grass in our yard. Burning trash and accidently catching the field in back of our house on fire. The burnt field must of given someone the idea to put a trailer court there. The easter egg hunt in the baseball field and finding a snake trying to eat one of the eggs. The field mice coming into the house in the fall and the snakes coming in after them. Two boys from the trailer court getting hit by a train one March. The fireworks stand along that main service road around the 4th of July. I'd save a couple of bottle rockets every year and wait until New Years Eve and set them off at midnight. Hoping every year the river would be low enough so I could wade across and explore that little cave on the hill, (never got to do it, a big black snake leaped out of the weeds and scared me.) The millions of yellow flowers that lined Lincoln Drive in late summer, early fall. The deep ditches along that one narrow stretch of Lincoln Drive. Several people had their cars fall in that ditch.
